GRID SUPPORT STUDIES

At MEC, we strive to provide grid support solutions that are developed to meet the needs and priorities of our power system grid operators. Our grid support study packages are adapted following extensive discussion with clients and industry partners.

Our services include:

  • Power System Risk Review

  • Planning studies for system strength requirement identification

  • Creation of PSSE study cases from SCADA measurements

  • Generator grid connection application review

We are also actively developing solutions for designing special protection schemes, network modelling issue resolutions and small signal stability studies. We have expertise in investigating and analysis major system events as well.

POWER SYSTEM RATING ANALYZER

This software is designed to assist system operators, planners, protection and asset engineers to analyze transmission line rating and performance. The software is capable of estimating:

  • Transmission line static ratings for the given ambient conditions

  • The short-term line rating available for a selected period with given loading and ambient conditions

  • The variation in line ratings for three key variables viz., ambient temperature, wind speed and wind angle of attack

  • Forecast line ratings based on the ambient forecast data

The software can also simulate the line temperature for varying current and ambient conditions and also has provisions for real time applicability to determine line capacity based on real time wind speed, ambient temperature and line current measurements.

CONNECTION STUDY SOFTWARE

MEC has developed software that automate the PSSE generator connection studies end-to-end. Depending on the needs of the developers following PSSE based software could be licensed:

  • Plant model creator: Development of full and aggregated plant model in PSSE from the plant SLD and parameters

  • Reactive capability software: OLTC impacts analysis, STATCOM sizing, reactive capability diagram of the plant

  • Short circuit (SC) analyser: Analysing the SC level within the plant and at interested locations in the grid, SCR at PoC, Composite SCR, weighted average SCR

  • CB rating analyser

  • Contingency analyser: To analyse the impacts of contingencies in the grid and also within the plant

  • Grid compliance study software (using aggregated and equivalent grid model) capable of:

  1. Active and reactive power tests

  2. LVRT and HVRT tests

  3. Frequency control tests: Generation trip and load trip and ramp events

  4. Grid frequency tests: Using playback model

  • Grid compliance study software (using full grid model) capable of:

  1. Transient stability studies

  2. Grid fault studies

  3. Generation trip studies

  • DMAT studies software: To carryout all the PSSE tests required by grid operators

  • Model checking software: To carryout complete preliminary checks on the model.

PSSE RESULT ANALYSIS TOOL

This tool assists power system engineers to analyze and visualize PSSE results efficiently. The software produces interactive graphs of the PSSE test results with the following features:

  • Searching and grouping graphs using channel key words for single and multiple files

  • Enables comparison of multiple output files, multiple channels, two axis graphs etc

  • Capable of computing settling time, rise time, damping ratio and customized to analyze reactive control step test results in accordance to grid rules

  • Analyze the frequency spectrum of a signal through FFT

  • Rate of change of frequency (RoCoF) computation of a frequency signal

PSCAD RESULT ANALYZER

This tool is aimed to assist power system engineers to analyze PSCAD results efficiently. The software produces interactive graphs of the PSCAD test results with the following features:

  • Searching and grouping graphs using channel key words for single and multiple files

  • Enables comparison of multiple output files, multiple channels, two axis graphs etc.,

  • Capable of computing settling time, rise time, damping ratio and customized to analyze reactive control step test results in accordance to grid rules

  • Analyze the frequency spectrum of a signal through FFT

  • Rate of change of frequency (RoCoF) computation of frequency signal.

  • Comparison graphs between PSSE and PSCAD results
